would https://hackmd.io or https://stackedit.io be useful tools for teaching about markdown?
all you need is a browser, so no need to install pandoc

I've been using markdown editing in RStudio, it works great, but unfortunately only make sense when you're teaching R too
@jezcope thanks for pointing hackmd.io and stackedit.io they both look good

apparently stackedit is no longer in development and classeur is its successor, but the former still works really well and the latter is in beta

do you know if those tools have various export options?

Now that you can create files directly on GitHub, that would be another place ot consider for markdown.

aha, yes, then gh-pages could be a motivating use case
@mkuzak all three have live html preview and html/pdf export, though pdf is beta quality in hackmd and stackedit
classeur seems to use pandoc as an export backend and lists epub, latex, openoffice, pdf, rtf and word as export formats
also lets you add custom pandoc commandline options

With apologies for being super cryptic, I hope everyone who feels they contribute something to LC got my email today about an exciting thing that has happened. I can't say what it is here because this is a public forum and I'm not aloud to tell in public. So if you believe you should know (because you contribute to this thing we've made!), point me to a place with your email on it and I'll forward you the email. Could I be more cryptic!? :)
(And please no-one else either a) tell here or b) be less cryptic than I... That would be naughty!)
