irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> Hi mates
irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> Can I use an http file like http://mydomain.com/myfile.txt to create a magnet link? Maybe mounting like a local file somehow?
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <08DiegoRBaquero> you'd need to fetch it, seed it with client, get magnet, add webseed
irc-discord-bot <08DiegoRBaquero> then you'd have a magnet with the webseed available
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> I was able to do it using sshfs, thanks @DiegoRBaquero
irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> another question, pls, I was looking at the issues and I've seen that there are some alternatives for in-memory storage of chunks, like using indexdb etc. But I couldn't find a way to use it in pure html/js, from a CDN, or importing the js file on a <script tag.
irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> this guy
irc-discord-bot <06Jeff> I'd like to use any of those to try to reduce memory usage
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> Check out Dexie: https://dexie.org/docs/Tutorial/Getting-started. It's a wrapper for IndexedDb. Makes it easy to use and has a script tag w/ a CDN link.

irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> Are there any known issues with the latest version of Safari and WebTorrent? I'm trying to use Bugout, but Safari never makes connections. Other browsers I've beein using (Chrome, Brave) work fine. Debugging Bugout, I see the torrent is created. [Safari Version 14.1.1 (15611.2.7.1.6, 15611)]

@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <06anesu> Yeah. My only workaround right now is webseeds sadly. This affects WebKit browsers as far as I've tested so including browsers like Safari, Gnome Web etc. Yes some that were based off that like the Chrome Browser (if I recall correctly) have long branched off so yeah
irc-discord-bot <06anesu> You'll need to also have a torrent file rather than just a magnet to make it work with webseeds properly.
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> @anesu any ideas why? In previous versions of Safari, I had no issues.
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> Well, I shouldn't say 'no issues', there were longer delays than other browsers, but I always got a connection... eventually

irc-discord-bot <12Iskandar VI> hello
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> Is there any way to get the magnet URI metadata by doing a lookup with an infoHash? E.g. using bittorrent-tracker, or bittorrent-dht? Or other?
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <08DiegoRBaquero> not by themselves
irc-discord-bot <08DiegoRBaquero> torrent-discovery will only help discover peers
irc-discord-bot <08DiegoRBaquero> but for metadata you need to contact peers
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> So in the scenario that a peer is connected to the tracker, can I get the magnet uri meta data using bittorrent-tracker then somehow?
irc-discord-bot <03jsNinja> I'm specifically looking for the dn= when the peer connects to the tracker

irc-discord-bot <08Wabbit> how do i download a file after fetching it? (im using react)

irc-discord-bot <06zaaz> webtorrent/webtorrent#886 that is interesting, would love to see this. torrents that can be updated or changed

irc-discord-bot <04stephin> any tips on how to keep memory usage low when lots of downloads added to client ?

irc-discord-bot <13LPX> Hello everyone 🙂 Glad to see an active community still working on BT
irc-discord-bot <13LPX> Tron can go screw themselves for not only going closed source but not pushing any updates for 3 years
irc-discord-bot <13LPX> So many countless hours of volunteers devs wasted

irc-discord-bot <04stephin> @Feross when i add so many torrents my server ram usage gets full and node process auto killed because of no more memory. can you tell me how to keep memory usage low when adding many torrents ?
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> please help 😩
irc-gitter-bot

irc-discord-bot <09Feross> How many torrents are you adding? WebTorrent currently doesn't handle >20 torrents at the same time super well. We need to auto-pause all but 5 or something like that, which other clients do
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> tons
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> means 100 or more
irc-discord-bot <09Feross> I don't think that's currently going to work well - need to only have ~5-10 which are downloading at once. Once they're seeding, you can leave them there and not worry about RAM as much
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> so i should explore other clients to add 100+ torrents ?
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> i am not the one who use this
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> its for a bot for telegram messengers
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> means more number of users will send magnet link to bot and bot will interact with webtorrent via http erequest
irc-gitter-bot
@irc-gitter-bot
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> do you know when webtorrent can handle 100+ torrents ? is there a workaround?
irc-discord-bot <04stephin> i like webtorrent because of its simplicity and its events which is nicely suits my usecase
