@rlue yes we have a chapter in Lagos too.
Due to corna the ones in taiwan where suspended, but they might get started again.
Most of us here in the community have a focus on frontend and javascript for particular reasons. We don't do other languages usually so we ahve an easier time to work together because we share the stack :-)

We also do a lot of peer-to-peer and blockchain related stuff, but a lot of focus is to connect those things to actual frontends people can use

@rlue how did you learn about @wizardamigos ? :-)

@rlue
Thanks @serapath! Saw a listing on meetup, but also saw that it was for February of this year
always curious about new technologies, so even better that you guys are outside my domain :)
Nina Breznik
@ninabreznik
@rlue Yep yep, we do Javascript and p2p (hypercore-protocol) and also blockchain (substrate/polkadot and in the past @serapath and I did Ethereum stuff, but some other people still do and we also still maintain some apps we built back then)
We did a code camp in November in Chiang Mai/Thailand. Here's some videos if you want to see what kind of topics did we rotate there

@serapath also made this video for our remote team collaborator on How to build Web components (without React or any framework) with native Javascript ~ if you are interested

Hi guys, I'm writing this smart contract to record report cards, is it possible to verify that the reports are not duplicated?
my code is the following

pragma solidity >=0.4.22 <0.7.0;

contract ReportCard{

address owner;

event Status(string msg, address user);

struct Actas{
    uint numero;
    string codigo;
    string carrera;
    string materia;
    string curso;
    string periodo;
    string notas;
}

mapping(uint => Actas) Act;

constructor() public{
    owner = msg.sender;
    emit Status('Se ha creado el contrato exitosamente', owner);

}

function setActa(uint _numero, string memory _codigo, string memory _carrera, string memory _materia
, string memory _curso, string memory _periodo, string memory _notas)public onlyOwner{
    Act[_numero] = Actas({
        numero: _numero,
        codigo: _codigo,
        carrera: _carrera,
        materia: _materia,
        curso: _curso,
        periodo: _periodo,
        notas: _notas
    });
    emit Status('Se ha registrado la acta de calificaciones', msg.sender);
}

function getActa(uint _numero)public onlyOwner view returns(uint, string memory, string memory, string memory
, string memory, string memory, string memory){

    return (Act[_numero].numero, Act[_numero].codigo, Act[_numero].carrera, Act[_numero].materia, Act[_numero].curso,
    Act[_numero].periodo, Act[_numero].notas);

}

 modifier onlyOwner{
    if(msg.sender != owner){
        revert();
    }else{
        _;
    }
}

}

Hello
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
hello :-)
we teach web and blockchain, mainly javascript, currently we removed solidity from our curriculum :-)

@achi55
am glad to be here
i have a very big challenge with node app that am developing with mysql database and express framework
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
We only help with a very specific stack... P2P, vanilla JS, ... No express. No mysql
We help ppl who want to go to learn p2p/blockchain and generally a bleeding edge offline first way of programming. We dont help with legacy mainstream stacks
achi55
@achi55
ok

Guys, using react js will slow down the site?
jeffery.sac
@jefferysac
It’s a resource consuming monster, sure it will
A_step_below_classy
@kbventures
@jefferysac why is it so popular with start ups then?
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
Because startups have different needs
They need developers which can be replaced and hired, so building an app in a standardized way that is advertised and learned by lots of people makes sense for startups
React gets a lot of marketing budget to advertise to developers
Beginners can learn some concepts and get hired quickly, but in the long run, you might wanna grow beyond the sandbox that was built for you by react folks :-)... There is more stuff you can build than just react web apps or web apps in general
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath

Hacked together a little helper function.
Given a string name, it always derives the same color scheme from it, so i can use it for logging messages and make it easier to identify which log belongs to which name.

anyone know how to create map/graph from the given list of words?
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
What kind of graph? Visually connect them? What is the relation about?
jaygeet
@jaygeet
A kind of knowledge graph/mind map
relation is parent-children
& also siblings
@serapath
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
Just search google for graph visualization libraries
Or tree visualization librariea
Add "javascript"

Hey hey @jaygeet sorry for late response. We somehow moved a bit to the Discord chat and will soon sync the chat to Cabal p2p chat too. Maybe also Gitter. But if you want, you can also join on the Discord https://discord.gg/BcvWkKGx4Z

@gregorbizjak
I am a complete beginner. I want to learn JavaScript. I installed Visual Studio Code. My question is how to set the console in a way that it colors the code accordingly like commandes are one color in the console comments another etc. I hope I structured the question correctly. Thank you for the help.
