Does MOB gives VM tag information ? I am getting Folder info.
Vikas Shitole
@vThinkBeyondVM
MOB will not give tag info..
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
MOB only gives back info from the standard vSphere Web Services API aka the old SOAP stuff (which does have tags but were never really used), and the tag info is that you see from the Web Client is something totally different and is stored and managed somewhere other than the vSphere API and thus the vSphere Database.
Vikas Shitole
@vThinkBeyondVM
Tags are part of vCenter REST APIs since vSphere 6.5

I was using yavijava lib for Cross vCenter Migration

Thanks @vThinkBeyondVM @michaelrice Do we support Tag info through API ?
Laok
@junkao
hi @michaelrice , can we generate code(mo datatype) through the yavijava_generator tool.
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
@junkao no, but I dont think it would be hard to add that support. I just never got around to adding it
Laok
@junkao
@michaelrice OK, I know. if this feature is available, mo upgrade is as easy as updating (like datatype,fault,enum).
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
yep. It would only take a few mins to publish updates to the lib then, but I just havent bothered doing the work
and honestly unless I get back into a vmware development role Ill probably never do it
Laok
@junkao
@michaelrice :smile:
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
thats why updates have been so slow
I am an openstack developer now (for the last 3 years) and I dont use vmware ever anymore
I was hoping my old team would keep working on yavijava when I left the team but instead I was told they just bought licenses for vijava-ng from Steve Jin
Laok
@junkao
Yes, continuous updating of this project requires a great deal of effort. Developers also have a good understanding of vmware. Buying vijavang may be a good choice.
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
if I had to work on vmware stuff still Id never pay for it, but Im not in that boat
maybe the ng version is worth the money but the opensource version didnt even have tests and was really untestable
and it would be hard for me to justify to an employer that it was worth the investment
and the way it broke the ssl security stuff.. holy cow.
if you used insecure then it trusted literally ever ssl cert thrown at it even if you were expecting some sites to be verified
and it did that for like every released version
Laok
@junkao
Yes, by the way, the internal use of ordinary companies can ignore security factors.
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
I dont agree
and I dont even mean just between vsphere
lets say your app needed to talk to a trusted AD to auth your end users and to vsphere
if you used insecure on your vsphere communication even the communication to your AD was now untrusted
because the old vijava changed the global scope and not the local scope of the vsphere communication
Ive had a lot of jobs and literally none of them would find that kind of thing acceptable
Ive only worked in insurance, medical, and now managed hosting but still that is not the kind of thing that is cool..
even the smallest company I worked for had stricter security guidelines than to allow something like that.
Michael Rice
@michaelrice
and they were fine with insecure communication to vsphere because it was on its own isolated vlan
but we had an externally hosted auth source like okta and using insecure on the vsphere communication made our calls to okta untrusted
to get around it back then we just got valid ssl for all our vsphere stuff, but now in yavijava I modified the source to allow insecure the context so its just between the vsphere and not globally
Laok
@junkao
:+1: i agree . These security viewpoints are very good. thank

I am getting below error The element property name is invalid on element HostVsanSystem on https://xxx/sdk/vimService. Please verify in the MOB. It's probably a MOR or an array.
com.vmware.vim25.InvalidProperty: , HostVsanSystem is not supported ?

How do I switch HTTP client implementation? We are hitting an issue with a hang read socket and believe it may has to do with the HTTP implementation. Any advise?
