    TheFrenchGhosty > <@bopol_:matrix.org> So… who uses dailymotion?

    A French webserie is (was) exclusive to dailymotion. Otherwise, some youtubers have a ton of videos only available there

    Bopol Also most french medias use dailymotion

    hello, i've got two questions about youtube-dlc:
    • is there an option like --dump-json, but for the live chat json instead? (i.e. only download live chat, not video)
    • i tried to look at a live chat json on https://jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com to see how it was made and it says the file is invalid because each message is a different json root, is that a bug or can that be worked with?
    alnj
    @alnj
    might not be the best approach but i'll just run a script that add commas between messages and but everything in a []

    @matrixbot
    cadence [they] yeah that's a solution if you want it to be a single document
    alnj
    @alnj
    im not a very knowledgeable programmer, what would be a typical use of the file as downloaded where every line is a message object?
    without editing it the way i did
    just making sure im not adding an unnecessary step
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    cadence [they] some programs can deal with it, some can't
    cadence [they] have you tried --dump-single-json ?
    alnj
    @alnj
    i don't understand fully how it works but it doesn't seeme to fetch the live chat, only standard metadata
    seem*
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    cadence [they] you can't fetch live chat from the past, you have to stream it, as far as I know?
    alnj
    @alnj
    from testing around, it seems that with the --all-subs option, yt-dlc downloads the livechat as a separate .live_chat.json file with the formatting issues i mentioned earlier
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    cadence [they] hmm
    cadence [they] that's interesting.
    alnj
    @alnj
    i tried to find information about this file but im not proficient enough with git/hub to know if there's even any.
    commit history starts with a rename
    associated pull request link is... wrong, and searching for "chat" in the PRs doesn't return the original PR
    alnj
    @alnj
    regarding the json file formatting, i've been informed that it is likely: https://jsonlines.org

    yt-dlp (a fork of youtube-dlc) has been going REALLY strong for a while, I recommend everyone to move to it. https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

    I'm personally leaving this room.

    Umm hello?
    What is youtube-dlc?

    It is a utility written in Python which lets you download video files from some websites and store them locally.

    Hmmmmm how is it different compared to youtube-dl?

    Not very.
    -dlc is a fork that started when -dl got spiked on Github a while back.

    That's where development's happening, I'm afraid. If a ticket isn't opened there, it probably won't be acted upon.

    I didn't know about this fork. I'll be interested to see the PRs that go into it especially as time passes. For a project that is "dead" (and is a scraper), the upstream code still works pretty damned well

    Is anyone annoyed by subtitles not being checked if they exist like file and file.part files do?
    Imagine using the --all-subs option.
    It re-downloads new subtitles no matter if you got them downloaded already or nah
